Blockburger Named Pac-12 Men’s Track Athlete of the Week

TUCSON, Ariz. – In the first round of the Pac-12's weekly Track & Field awards, freshman Wildcat Johnnie Blockburger was named Pac-12 Men's Track Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Willie Williams Classic. 

In his outdoor debut on March 19th and 20th, the freshman from Tucson won the men's 400m, clocking the NCAA-leading time of 45.83. This gives him the fifth-best time in school history and the Arizona freshman record, previously held by teammate Umajesty Williams.

Blockburger also finished fifth in the 200m, running a PR of 21.13, giving him the 17th best time in the country in the event.

Blockburger is set to compete again at the Aztec Invitational on Saturday. He will race in the 100m and the 4x100 and 4x400m relays. A complete recap of the meet will be posted to ArizonaWildcats.com. You can also follow @ArizonaTrack on twitter throughout the day for live updates.
