Oloyede and Geist Put Up Top NCAA Marks in San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Five throwers got competition started for the Wildcats at the Aztec Invitational on Friday, competing in the hammer throw. Israel Oloyede and Jordan Geist both put up top 3 marks in the country in the event.

Oloyede won the men's hammer throw with a PR of 69.20m (227-0), giving him the second-best mark in the NCAA and the third-best in school history. Geist placed second, also picking up a PR of 68.35m (224-3), which is ranked third in the country and fourth at Arizona.

Jakob Chamberlin took fourth, throwing 57.52m (188-8) and Jaisen Brown threw his second consecutive PR with 53.54m (175-8).

On the women's side, freshman Ava David placed second with a mark of 55.30m (181-5), tying the ninth best throw in school history.

The Wildcats will be back for day two on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. MST beginning with the women's javelin throw. Running events will follow at 12:45 p.m.
