TEMPE, Ariz. — A complete performance from the Arizona GymCats netted them their best score of the year, a sparkling 196.075, on the road at No. 7 Arizona State on Saturday evening. The Gym Devils barely edged out Arizona with a 196.100.

Arizona tied their season-high mark on vault and set a new season-best mark on floor in the closely-contested rivalry meet.

Uneven Bars

The GymCats opened the meet with a strong 48.850 on bars. Sophomore Zaza Brovedani and freshman Elena Deets tied for the team lead and placed fourth on the event with a 9.800.

Vault

Next up for Arizona was vault, where they posted a 48.975 to tie their best score of the year. Freshman Jessica Castles notched a career-high 9.850 to co-lead the team and tie for second on the event. Sophomore Malie Hargrove also posted a 9.850 on vault.

Floor Exercise

The third rotation sent the GymCats to floor, where they posted their best performance of the year with a 49.200 team score. Hargrove (9.900) and sophomore Libby Orman (9.850) both tied their career-high marks as Arizona's top two scorers in the event. Three more GymCats posted 9.8s or greater on floor and helped give Arizona the lead heading into the final rotation.

Balance Beam

Arizona closed out the evening with a strong beam performance and a 49.050. Castles won the event outright with a 9.875, just shy of her career-high mark of 9.9. In total, four Arizona gymnasts posted scores at or above 9.8 on beam.
