Arizona En Español: Serving the Wildcat Way

TUCSON, Ariz. – As part of the department's ongoing commitment to enhancing fan engagement, Arizona Athletics introduced "Arizona En Español" to deliver Spanish-language content about the Arizona Wildcats. The creation of the new content streams adds to the department's existing Spanish-language game broadcasts of football and men's basketball games.

"Arizona Athletics is a focal point of the entire Southern Arizona community, and I am excited to see our department continue to serve our fans and supporters in new ways," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Dave Heeke. "Arizona En Español, a social media account that launched on August 2, will enhance our connections with our Hispanic and Spanish-speaking community while creating and delivering new and original content that highlights the outstanding student-athletes in our programs. Being innovative and growing engagement is part of our commitment to being a Wildcat and a foundation of our service to Southern Arizona."
Fan engagement and a commitment to customer service is part of the "Arizona Advantage" pillar of the athletics department's strategic initiatives that focuses on leveraging the strengths of our department, campus and local community and its diverse populations to drive success.

Arizona Athletics began providing Spanish-language broadcasts in 1999 with highly-regarded broadcasters Francisco Romero and Marco Rincon. Romero, who has spent a dozen seasons as the Spanish Voice of the Houston Astros, is growing his portfolio of work as the voice of "Arizona En Español" as well.

The athletics department's growth in Spanish-language content as part of its Wildcat Way Strategic Plan is in alignment with the University of Arizona's designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution that is committed to responsively meeting the educational needs of our vibrant and increasingly diverse communities of Arizona.
