Introducing the Arizona EDGE Marketplace

TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics continue to show their commitment to student-athletes by providing resources and opportunities within the new Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) space in collegiate athletics. After announcing the 'Arizona EDGE' program last year, Arizona Athletics had added to that today with the announcement of the new Arizona EDGE Marketplace.

The Marketplace is a place where the business community can connect with UA student-athletes through awareness and education about NIL opportunities. University of Arizona employees, including coaches and members of the athletics department, may facilitate opportunities for student-athletes to participate in NIL activities, but they may not negotiate deals or contracts.

"We will continue to develop new resources through the Arizona EDGE program to support student-athletes and staff," Arizona Vice President and Director of Athletics Dave Heeke said. "The Arizona EDGE Marketplace further shows how committed we are to providing student-athletes with an outstanding experience and achieving excellence in their academic, athletic and personal endeavors."

Members of the business community are now able to partner directly with student-athletes on brand-focused activities, provided they are within legal protocols and follow the University of Arizona NIL protocols and are approved in advance by the Arizona Compliance department. Such activities may include:

  • Autographs
  • Promoting brands on social media
  • Third-party media endorsements
  • Running camps or clinics
  • Providing private sport lessons
  • Personal Appearances

In keeping with the longstanding Commitment to an Athletes Total Success (C.A.T.S.), student-athletes feel empowered to be their own personal business entities through a personalized and adaptive learning experience. Arizona Edge is designed to build enduring skills that help today, tomorrow and forever whether student-athlete want to represent themselves or to be able to identify issues if others are representing them.

Among the many resources available on campus, Arizona Athletics has partnered specifically with the prestigious Eller College of Management, the James Rodgers College of Law, the FORGE program for entrepreneurs along with industry leaders INFLCR and Altius Sports Partners.

The resources listed above have the capacity to help educate a student-athlete as well as enhance their personal branding, business development, financial literacy, business networking, business law and much more.
