Wildcats Take on the Field at Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Arizona Women's Golf will travel to Kansas as a first-time participant in the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational, beginning on Monday, Oct. 17. The Kansas Jayhawks' home tournament began in 1994 and is being played at the Lawrence Country Club for the first time ever. The Wildcats begin their week in Lawrence as the No. 12 ranked program in the GolfStat rankings.

"This is a great opportunity for our team to card some great scores outside of our home desert golf environment," said head coach Laura Ianello. "We've stringed together a number of good scoring rounds throughout the fall, and I am looking forward to seeing our young ladies put together a consistent week."

Arizona's lineup will feature two upperclassmen in senior Gile Bite Starkute and junior Maya Benita with the sophomore tandem of Carolina Melgrati and Lilas Pinthier joining them. Freshman Julia Misemer will make her third consecutive start to round out the lineup.

The Wildcats have posted quality rounds of golf this Fall that includes their runner-up finish at the Mason Rudolph Championship to begin the season.

The 15-team field will play 54 holes in two days at LCC. The Lawrence Country Club golf course was completely renovated and re-opened for play in September of 2006. The course was nominated by Golf Digest as one of the top five renovated country club courses in the Midwest Region. All 18 holes were rede[1]signed and sculptured to create a magnificent and challenging course for all levels of play. LCC is one of only two country clubs in the state of Kansas with bent grass tee boxes, fairways, and greens. LCC hosted the Women's Big 12 Golf Championship in 2012.
