TUCSON, Ariz. — Starting Feb. 1, Arizona Athletics is excited to once again kick off a month-long celebration of Black History Month. 

The student-athlete driven movement, hosted in conjunction with campus partners, will feature numerous events throughout the month of February that help promote diversity, unity, and inclusion.

The Wildcats Black History Month campaign will be highlighted by BHM Game nights with men's basketball (2/5) and women's basketball (2/13). Both contests will feature performances from the Barbea Williams Performing Company that include traditional African dances, drums, and more. 

As in years past, all Arizona student-athletes will receive a Black History Month shirt that will be worn on-court and on-field during warmups prior to games in February.

Arizona Athletics is also proud to partner with the African American Student Affairs (AASA) group this year to cooperate on a community service project and an outdoor block party. Details on both events are forthcoming.

In a first for Arizona's Black History Month celebrations, the department has partnered with campus to secure name, image, and likeness (NIL) deals for three student-athletes that will see them contribute as models for BHM merchandise that will be sold at the university bookstore. The athletes are Dante Smith from Arizona Football and Simone Overbeck and Alayna Johnson from Arizona Volleyball. This merchandise can also be purchased online by clicking HERE.

Internal events for Arizona Athletics staff and student-athletes will also be held throughout the month, including a viewing of "The Loyola Project," a documentary chronicling the 1963 Loyola Ramblers team that broke racial barriers and permanently reshaped the landscape of college basketball.
