PHOENIX, Ariz. -- The No. 12 Arizona Wildcats (1-1) took on GCU and Boise St. in their first tournament of the season, the GCU Invitational. The Cats started the weekend with a 4-1 loss to GCU but quickly rallied to secure their 10th win over Boise St, finishing 4-1. 

Against No. 9 GCU the Cats saw their first loss of the season. Senior Sarah Blacker and Grad student Maja Kaiser were able to force the Lopes into a third set, the only of the match, after taking the second set 21-13. Ultimately the Lopes came back in the third to win the point for court two. Seniors Dana Parker and Jasmine Safar were Arizona's only winning court going 21-19, 21-17. The pair put up a fight against the Lopes, finishing last in the rotation. 

The Wildcats were able to pick up their first win of the season against Boise St. Pairs Parker and Safar and Hope Shannon and Kali Uhl were able to clinch Arizona points in two sets going 21-18, 21-13 and 21-19, 21-18. Blacker and Kaiser were the first pair to see victory over the Broncos going 21-17, 19-21, 15-12 on court two. Alex Parkhurst and Alana Rennie took the fourth and final point for the Cats on court one going 21-19, 16-21, 15-13. 

UP NEXT 
The Wildcats will be back in Tucson to host the first home tournament of the season. The Cactus Classic will begin on March 4 at 10 am MST, conclude on March 5 at 3 pm MST and will see match play from ASU, Colorado Mesa, Santa Clara, Hawaii, and Boise State.
