Montgomery, Ala. - The women's team finished out the final round of the Blue Gray Tennis Classic with a huge 4-3 win over No. 26 University of Alabama. The Wildcats finished round two with another big win against Troy University 4-0.
Round two saw the Cats secure the doubles point and three singles points over Troy. Kirsten Prelle and Kayla Wilkins defeated Anastasiia Khokhlova and Andrea Widing in a 7-6 (7-4) tiebreaker. Khim Iglupas and Parker Fry finalized the round two doubles point for Arizona with a 7-6 (7-4) tiebreaker win over Franziska Ahrend and Chiara Desia Dabrano.
Wilkins won her singles match 6-3, 6-0 against Khokhlova and Midori Castillo won her match in a 6-0, 6-1 sweep over Michelle Ncube. Fry defeated Hagar Amin in two straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
Despite losing the doubles point against Alabama in round three, the Wildcats took four singles points to win the match.
Salma Ziouti defeated Ola Pitak in two straight sets 6-2, 6-3. Fry won her singles point in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 against Anna Parkhomenko. Iglupas defeated Anne Marie Hiser in two straight sets 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). And freshman Belen Nevenhoven won her singles match 7-5, 6-2 against Kasia Pitak.
The women's team will host three matches at home next weekend: Washington State on Friday, March 4, the University of Washington on Saturday, March 5 and Colorado State on Sunday, March 6.
