TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Gymnastics sophomore
Elena Deets earned the honor of Pac-12 Coaches Choice, voted on by the conference coaches, following strong performances on bars, beam, and floor in Arizona's historic win over Utah last Friday night.
"Elena had her best meet of the season when our team needed it the most," said head coach
John Court. "She has shown fantastic leadership qualities all year and is deserving of this recognition."
Deets earned a career best score of 9.90 on bars and tied her career high on floor with a 9.85 to help Arizona post a season best 196.850 to beat Utah for the first time in history. After recovering from a preseason injury, Deets competed on floor for the first time this season and tied her career best score. She followed a fall on bars with a career best 9.90 to help the GymCats earn a season high 49.200 on the event. Her 9.85 on floor pushed Arizona to score 9.85s and above on floor to earn a 49.300 to win the meet.
Arizona is at home for the second-straight week to host Oregon State on Friday, March 4 at 6 p.m. MST. The GymCats will be honoring
MacKinzie Kane for senior night and will be hosting their annual Think Pink meet.
