TUCSON, Ariz. — Junior Julia Heimstead has received Pac-12 Women's Swimmer of the Week, next to Delaney Schnell who has received Women's Diver of the Week.
The awards come after both athletes had outstanding performances in Arizona's meet last Friday against Washington State and Northern Arizona.
Heimstead secured two first place spots in individual events, posting times of 54.84 in the 100 Fly and 1:49.65 in the 200 Free, an entire 2.65 seconds before her runner up. Additionally, Julia helped lead the Cats to victory with two first place relay wins, swimming the third leg of the 200 Medley Relay and the first leg of the 400 Free Relay.
Schnell took the top spot in both the 3-meter and 1-meter events, scoring a 306.53 in the 1m and surpassing her NAU opponent by a margin of 48.08 points. In the 3m event, Delaney scored an impressive 393.45, an entire 104.32 points above her competition, and 15.6 points above her own entry score.
In the 2021-22 season, Schnell was awarded Pac-12 Women's Diver of the Year alongside Arizona Diving coach, Dwight Dumais, who earned Pac-12 Women's Diving Coach of the Year. That was the second time Delaney has received such honors, having also been awarded Pac-12 Diver of the Year in the 2020-21 season.
The Cats have a big weekend ahead, with a face off against California set for Friday, January 20 at 2:00 p.m. MST and their Senior Day meet the following day at 11:00 a.m. MST. The meets mark the last time Arizona will host at home at Hillenbrand Aquatics Center this season.
