Wildcat Wednesday - Bear Down Arizona Men's Golf
10/11/2023 | Wildcat Wednesday
Hats off to our men's golf program for an outstanding week at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup in Dallas that culminated with a thrilling championship match that saw the Cats come just short of a team win over Florida State.
Junior Tiger Christensen was one of the many Wildcats who put on a show for the Golf Channel broadcast as he won the individual championship in record-breaking fashion. He carded a final round of 8-under par to win the title with a final score of 19-under, which broke the program record for a 54-hole tournament.
The Wildcats ended the stroke play portion of the event with an impressive 20-under performance in Tuesday's third round. The team's final round was the second-lowest team round in school history, trailing only a 21-under round in the 2019 Arizona Intercollegiate. With a final score of 46-under par as a team after 54 holes, the Wildcats also set a new tournament scoring record.
Congratulations to Coach Anderson and the team for achieving championship excellence on a national stage this week in Texas and for proudly representing the Block A as academic, athletic and life champions. Bear Down and Go Cats!

HALL OF FAME SPOTLIGHT
Our feature series on the 2023 class of the Arizona Sports Hall of Fame continues this week with former women's basketball standout Kirsten Smith Cambron. A trail blazer for the program as its first ever 1,000-point scorer, Kirsten was a dominant force for the Wildcats from 1982 to 1986. By graduation, she was the all-time leading scorer in program history and still holds school records in free throw shooting that includes an impressive streak of 39 consecutive makes at the line.
Kirsten was inducted into the Ring of Honor in McKale Center six months ago and was honored by Coach Barnes and the entire team before a game. Her career truly represented the Wildcat Way as Kirsten brought recognition, distinction and honor to the program, athletics department and university as a proud Wildcat. We can't wait to induct her into the Arizona Sports Hall of Fame next month as part of this prestigious class of Wildcat legends.

SOPHOMORE CAREER EXPLORATION NIGHT
Our athletics department is full of tremendous staff members who help grow our student-athletes into academic, athletic and life champions. Our C.A.T.S. Student-Athlete Development team of Sofia Read and Jasmin Wooten lead this pioneer program as they prepare student-athletes for life after graduation.
They recently hosted the inaugural Sophomore Career Exploration Night inside the Jim Click Hall of Champions, which was an innovative program aimed at empowering sophomores to begin engaging in career exploration. Generations of alumni from a variety of professions were on hand to share their experience and insight. The panel also included current seniors and graduate seniors from different programs who offered advice on navigating a career journey.
Sophomore Career Exploration Night is just the most recent educational and informative pieces of programming put on by C.A.T.S. Student-Athlete Development. Their important work is crucial to student-athletes living the Wildcat Way and using their college experience as a platform to future professional success outside of sports.

Hi Corbett Field Renovations
Baseball recently celebrated the remodeling of its clubhouse thanks to the generosity of Wildcat Club members. Many of the upgraded amenities include a new treatment/arm-care room, a baseball hall of champions, and a modernized lounge. These renovations are part of a multi-phase long-term master plan to improve other areas while also focusing on fan engagement and recruitment of talent. Wear UofA - Share Your Wildcat Photos

Last weekend I took my 84-year-old father (a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan) to his first game at Lambeau Field. I'm not a Packer fan, so I figured I'd represent the Wildcats! This picture is pre-game, and I'm Andrew Day, class of 1988.
