Starkute Cards a 67 to Lead Cats in Final Round at Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. – Graduate senior Gile Bite Starkute saved her best for last to lead No. 21 Arizona Women's Golf, carding a final round 67 on Sunday. Starkute paced the Wildcats to a five-stroke improvement from Saturday's second round as Arizona shot 6-over in Sunday's final round. The Cats finished their weekend at the Stanford Intercollegiate in a tie for 12th place with a final team score of 22-over par.

"I knew our team would come out today with a great mindset to bounce back from Saturday's round, and that is what these young ladies accomplished in our final round," said head coach Laura Ianello. "This weekend has been a great learning experience for our team, and I believe we will get better because of it. We have a mature group, and I know they are eager to get back on the course and showcase their development."

Starkute's 4-under round of 67 on Sunday came after opening rounds of 73 and 72 to finish with Arizona's best score, ending the weekend in a tie for 11th at 1-under. The event also marked Starkute's second time in three tournaments this season as the Wildcats' top finisher. Arizona had a second top-30 scorer for the event in sophomore Nena Wongthanavimok who ended her weekend at 3-over par and in a tie for 29th.

The Wildcats were at their best on Stanford Golf Courses shortest holes, finishing the three-day event in third place in par-3 scoring. Wongthanavimok led the Wildcat charge in that statistical category by tying for first place individually at 3-under par.

Arizona will return to the course for its final tournament of the fall in five days when it makes its return to the Landfall Tradition, hosted by UNC Wilmington, on Friday, Oct. 27.
