Arizona Posts 70-54 Win Over LMU

TUCSON - Kailyn Gilbert recorded her third-straight double-digit scoring performance and Helena Pueyo had seven steals on the way to Arizona's 70-54 win over LMU on Sunday.

Gilbert totaled a team-leading 15 points and pulled down nine rebounds in addition two making two assists and a steal. Breya Cunningham went 100% from the field, putting four shots in the basket to bring her season field goal percentage to 90.5%.

After a back-and-forth start to the game, the Wildcats went on a 12-0 run to go up on the Lions. Salimatou Kourouma was responsible for six of those points with Maya Nnaji, Helena Pueyo and Skylar Jones all contributing as well. Arizona forced nine LMU turnovers in the first quarter.

Jada Williams drained a three-pointer to open the second quarter, but that was the only Wildcat field goal until Pueyo got a steal and took it down the court for an easy layup. A few possessions later, Pueyo pulled in an offensive rebound that she dished to Kourouma for the layup through traffic.

Pueyo was the first Wildcat to hit double-digit scoring against the Lions with a closely-defended three-pointer in the third and was joined in double digits minutes later by Kourouma. It marked Pueyo's first double-digit performance of the season and Kourouma's second.

The first Arizona points of the fourth quarter came courtesy of Kourouma, who intercepted an LMU cross-court pass and took it back for the score. Thirty seconds later, Gilbert upped the Wildcats' lead to 18 when she drilled a three-pointer.

Arizona has had at least 10 steals in every game this season and grabbed 14 against the Lions.

The Wildcats will take on San Diego Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 6:30 p.m. in its final home game before traveling to The Bahamas for the Battle4Atlantis.
