CLEARWATER, Fla. – No. 10 Arizona lost both of its games during the second day of the Clearwater Invitational. The Cats fell to Texas A&M, 2-1, before losing to Mississippi State, 6-3.
Game 1 | Texas A&M 2, Arizona 1
The Wildcats lost the first game of the day, 2-1 to Texas A&M. Each team had three hits in the game.
Devyn Netz (3-2) retired six straight batters in the first two innings, but Texas A&M scored their first run in the fourth on an RBI groundout. The Aggies scored another run in the fifth on a sac-fly.
In the top of the seventh,
Dakota Kennedy hit her first triple of the season to drive in
Kaiah Altmeyer for Arizona's first run of the game.
Netz picked up her second loss of the season, pitching 6.0 innings and striking out two batters.
Game 2 | Mississippi State 6, Arizona 3
Arizona fell to Mississippi State in the second game of the day, 6-3. The Wildcats out-hit the Bulldogs, 9-8, but left 11 runners on base.
Mississippi State scored two in the top of the second on two solo home runs. In the bottom of the inning,
Blaise Biringer drew an RBI walk to bring home Arizona's first run.
Arizona tied the game in the bottom of the third on a Kennedy RBI triple – her second triple of the day.
In the top of the fifth, the Bulldogs took advantage of two throwing errors by the Cats to add to more, making it 4-2. Mississippi State added two more on a two-RBI home run in the top of the seventh to extend their lead to 6-2.
Paige Dimler drove in Arizona's third run on an RBI triple in the bottom of the seventh, but the Cats couldn't make a comeback.
Sydney Somerndike (0-1) took the loss, pitching 2.1 innings and striking out three batters.
