TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona's
Delaney Schnell was named the 2023 Women's Swimming and Diving Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year on Friday for her outstanding academic and athletic performances over the course of her diving career. The announcement marks first time a Wildcat has received the honors since 2014.
A fifth-year Wildcat and graduate student, Schnell received her bachelors degree in Psychological Sciences in 2022. This past Fall, the scholar athlete began been pursuing postgraduate studies in Clinical Speech Pathology, maintaining a 4.00 in her master's program. Schnell has three CSCAA Scholar All-American honors under her belt ('18,'20,'22), and earned a 2022 CoSIDA Academic All-American and 2022 CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 First Team honors. While dedicating her time to academics and athletics, Schnell is also a dynamic member of her community, volunteering at non-profits around Tucson and recording a total 52.5 community service hours.
In addition to her studies, Schnell has had an impressive five years as a Pac-12 athlete, beginning in 2018 when she was award the conference's Women's Freshman Diver of the Year honors. The diver currently has eight Pac-12 Championship titles to her name and two Pac-12 Women's Diver of the Year honors ('21, '22). Furthermore, Schnell is a four-time All-American in the 1-Meter dive ('18, '19, 21, 22), a three-time All-American in the Platform dive (19' 21' 22) and a two-time All-American in the 3-Meter dive ('19, 22'). The Wildcat currently holds two school records, with a Platform score of 383.35 and a 3-Meter score of 388.70. Alongside her conference achievements, Schnell is a two-time 2022 FINA World Championship medalist, taking silver in the 10-Meter Synchronized Platform and bronze in the Mixed 10-Meter Platform events. The diver also medaled at the 2019 FINA World Championships, taking bronze in the 10-Meter Platform.
After qualifying for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, Schnell competed in the games and took home a silver medal in the 10-Meter Synchronized Platform event, the first time the award has ever been won by Team U.S.A.
Schnell is on track to graduate in Spring of 2024 after completing her Master's program.
