Geist Breaks School Record on Day One of Island Relays

FREEPORT, BAHAMAS – The Wildcats finished day one of the Island Relays on Friday, led by Jordan Geist who broke the school record in the hammer throw.

FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
Jordan Geist opened up the outdoor season in the same impressive manner that he ended the indoor year. In the men's hammer throw, Geist broke the school record and won the event with a personal best launch of 73.94m (242-7). That mark is currently the best in the nation for the men's hammer throw.
 
Ava David set a new personal record in the women's hammer throw, winning her first collegiate event with a heave of 58.83m (193-0). That mark keeps her at eighth all-time in Arizona school history in the event.
 
Erin Tack and Hollan Powers started the day off for the Wildcats in the women's javelin. In Tack's collegiate debut, she finished third overall with a throw of 44.86m (147-2). That mark puts her fifth all-time in Arizona school history for the new javelin. Powers also posted a new personal best in the event. In the men's javelin, Jared O'Riley finished runner-up with a personal best throw of 69.15m (226-10). That mark moves him up to eighth all-time on the outdoor school record list.
 
TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
The Wildcats had a pair of top-three finishes in the men's 400m. Carl Hicks clocked a time of 47.14 to finish second overall, and Isaac Davis ran a 47.37 to place third.
 
Talie Bonds won the prelims of the women's 100m hurdles, running a time of 13.28. Bonds will compete in the final tomorrow, along with Hollan Powers and Taylen Wise who finished fifth and seventh.
 
The Wildcats had two competitors qualify for the women's 100m final tomorrow: Neysia Howard and Esther Akinlosotu. Howard finished second overall with a time of 11.82, while the freshman, Akinlosotu, placed fifth. Additionally, Lauryn Ford improved her 100m personal best time. There were also two qualifiers in the men's 100m as well. Trayvion White-Austin finished seventh with a time of 10.78 and freshman James Onanubosi finished eighth with a time of 10.79.
 
Alisa Lyesina finished second overall in the women's 800m with a time of 2:06.02, barely being edged out at the line. In the men's 800m, Cade Russo clocked a time of 1:54.76, placing third overall.
 
Jenica Bosko clocked a personal best time of 23.57 and finished fourth overall in the women's 200m. That mark moves her up to eighth all-time in Arizona school history. Neysia Howard ended in seventh place as well with a time of 23.88. Additionally, Lauryn Ford clocked her second PR of the day in the event. In the men's 200m, Trayvion White-Austin also finished fourth overall after running a time of 21.30. Additionally, James Onanubosi ended in sixth place with a time of 21.39.
 
The Island Relays continue tomorrow, beginning at 6:00 a.m. MST with the women's 3k. Additionally, field events will get underway at 7:00 a.m. MST. Live results for all the events can once again be found here.
