TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona's Ty Coen has been selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Third Team, it was announced Monday morning.
Coen is a staple for the Wildcats in the backstroke and butterfly events. Most recently, the swimmer earned a season best in the 50 fly at the 2023 Pac-12 Championships. In December, Coen showed out at the Minnesota Invitational, earning four season bests, two NCAA B cuts and taking first place in the 200 back.
In addition to his athletic achievements, the fifth-year Wildcat completed his undergraduate degree last year in physiology and medical sciences with a 3.94 cumulative GPA, earning himself a CSCAA Scholar All-America honor. Coen is currently pursuing a master's degree in public health and is holding up a 4.0 GPA. Alongside two of his teammates, the scholar was selected to the CSC Academic All-District Team earlier this month.
Over the course of his time at Arizona, the Colorado native has been a dedicated member of the Tucson community and men's swimming team. Coen posted a total of 21 community service hours, in addition to serving as the team captain throughout his last year with the Cats.
