TUCSON, Ariz. - #19 Arizona defeated NM State 7-0 in the morning match and proved to be victorious again in the afternoon, winning 6-1 on Saturday, March 25 at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
Morning Match
The Wildcats started off strong winning the doubles point followed by 7 singles wins, six of which were finished in straight sets.
Nick Lagaev and
Colton Smith defeated Yehor Opanasenko and Jordy Visser 6-2 at one doubles then
Jared Horwood and Iñaki Cabrera-Bello clinched the point 6-2 against Luca Fe D'Ostiani and Ryan Ford at three doubles.
#80 Smith grabbed the first singles point for Arizona on court one when he defeated Corey Clarke 6-1 in both sets.
Gustaf Strom was next winning his first set against Visser 6-1 then blanking him 6-0 in the second.
Dominique Rolland clinched the match for the Wildcats at five singles with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Fe D'Ostiani. The 'Cats played out the remainder of the matches to perfect the clean sweep and maintain their flawless series record.
Afternoon Match
Arizona improved their series record against NM State once again, now 18-0. The 'Cats took the second doubles point of the day after #73
Jonas Ziverts and
Jay Friend swept Corey Clarke and Roko Stipetic 6-0 on court one before freshmen pair Rolland and
Eric Padgham clinched the point 6-1 at three doubles vs. Fe D'Ostiani and Ford.

Herman Hoeyeraal grabbed the first singles point in the second match after sweeping Stipetic 6-0 in both sets at two singles. Next was Padgham on court six who also swept his opponent 6-0 in straight sets. #45 Ziverts clinched the match for the 'Cats 6-0, 6-2 against Clarke at one singles.
Hiroki Sakagawa extended Arizona's lead with his 6-0, 6-4 victory at five singles and freshman Friend closed out the doubleheader 6-4, 6-1 vs. Itay Feigin on court three.
Men's Tennis is now 15-4 overall and remains undefeated at home. They are back at home next weekened to host two huge conference matches: #26 UCLA on Friday, March 31 at 2 p.m., and #10 USC on Sunday, April 1 at 1 p.m. MT.
