TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 24 Wildcats dropped to 24-17 (3-11 Pac-12) after losing the second game of the series, 8-4, to No. 2 UCLA.
Arizona held a 4-1 lead until the fifth inning when UCLA scored two runs to cut Arizona's lead to one run. The Bruins then scored five in the seventh to take the lead.
Four Wildcats had two hits in the game, led by
Sophia Carroll who went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run – her third homer of the season.
Dakota Kennedy,
Allie Skaggs, and
Blaise Biringer each tallied two hits.
The Wildcats took an early 4-0 lead in the second inning behind a two-run homer from Carroll and back-to-back RBI singles from Skaggs and
Devyn Netz.
UCLA answered with one run in the third on a sacrifice fly. In the fifth, the Bruins hit a two-run home run to bring the game within one run.
In the seventh, Arizona gave up five runs on an RBI single, and RBI double, and a three-run home run. The Cats couldn't answer in the bottom of the inning.
Aissa Silva took the loss to fall to 2-3 on the season. The freshman pitched 1.2 innings in relief but gave up the losing run in the seventh inning. Netz earned the start in the circle and struck out three batters through 5.0 IP.
Sydney Somerndike relieved Netz in the fifth to face one batter before Silva entered to pitch.
