TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona lost to California, 8-6, in the first game of the series on Friday. The Cats scored six runs on eight hits but couldn't come back in the seventh to take down the Golden Bears.
Olivia DiNardo and
Allie Skaggs each had home runs in the game. DiNardo hit a two-run home run in the third inning and Skaggs hit a solo homer in the fifth.
Cal scored in the first on a two-run home run but Arizona tied the game in the bottom half of the inning.
Carlie Scupin hit an RBI double to score
Dakota Kennedy for Arizona's first run. With two out, Scupin scored due to a muffed throw at second base to tie the game.
In the third inning, Scupin led off the inning with a walk and DiNardo hit her seventh home run of the season to give Arizona a two-run lead.
Arizona held the two-run lead until Cal hit a three-run home run in the top of the fifth. Skaggs answered with her 13th homer of the season – a solo shot to left center – in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 5-5.
In the sixth, Cal plated three runs to take an 8-5 lead on a two-RBI triple and an RBI single.
With one out in the seventh,
Izzy Pacho drove in Arizona's sixth run on an RBI single, but Cal made a double play to end the game.
Devyn Netz took the loss to fall to 14-15 on the season. She pitched 4.1 innings in relief, striking out four but giving up six runs on six hits.
Aissa Silva started the game, giving up two runs in 2.2 IP.
