Serbia won this event in 2007 and finished runner-up in 2011 and 2013. Â

Arizona certainly has history in this event, most recently in 2021 when three players and a coach were part of the competition in Latvia. Azuolas Tubelis played for Lithuania, Bennedict Mathurin played for Canada and Oumar Ballo played for Mali while Ken Nakagawa was the video coordinator for Japan. Mathurin and Canada came away with a bronze medal in 2021.Â

At the 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup that was played in Greece, current Wildcat Oumar Ballo helped his home country of Mali finish second at the event to the United States before redshirting at Gonzaga for the 2019-20 season. In Greece, Ballo dominated by leading the tournament in rebounding (11.8) and blocks (3.8) and earning a spot on the tournaments All-Star Five list. Â

The 2015 tournament was held in Greece and the United States claimed the gold medal with eventual Wildcat Allonzo Trier averaging 8.7 points for Team USA. Â

In 2013, future Wildcat Aaron Gordon was the MVP of the tournament, guiding the United States to the gold medal in the Czech Republic. In the nine games played, Gordon averaged 12.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists and shot 63.4% from the floor. Â
