Arizona Triathlon Set to Compete at Battle of Fort Worth

FORT WORTH, Texas – Arizona Triathlon will compete for the second time in program history on Sunday as part of the Battle of Fort Worth, which is hosted by TCU. Two weeks following a modified relay format at the ASU Dual Meet, the race in Texas will be Arizona's first traditional triathlon meet that consists of 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer ride and a 5k run. The Wildcats finished mere seconds behind defending national champion Arizona State in their previous competition.
"Our race on Sunday is about our program's continuous growth and development in all facets of triathlon," said head coach Wes Johnson. "We've been focused on process and being one percent better in each day of training, and Saturday will be a great barometer of all the hard work we have been putting in. I am excited to see our athletes compete against the best programs in the nation."
The field at the Battle of Fort Worth consists of Arizona State, Denver, Drury University, San Francisco and TCU. The race is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. (MST) at Marine Creek.
Arizona was led by Laura Holanszky, Grace Reeder and Kelly Wetteland in the pool in the ASU Dual Meet as the top swimmers in both the 100-yard and 500-yard portions of the race. The duathlon section of the meet, the run and ride, also saw the Wildcats post the top two times. Molly Lakustiak led the Cats with a time of 7:25 while Dana Prikrylová finished right behind Lakustiak.
The Battle of Forth Worth is Arizona's second of four competitions in its inaugural season. Following this weekend, the Wildcats will compete in the Western Regional Championships in Missouri on Saturday, Oct. 14 and the NCAA Championships on Saturday, Nov. 11.
