TEMPE, Ariz. – The Wildcats lost to Arizona State (22-25, 21-25, 15-25) to open Pac-12 action on Thursday.

Sofia Maldonado Diaz led Arizona's offense with 17 kills and
Jaelyn Hodge followed with 10 kills.

The Sun Devils won the first set, 25-22. ASU took an early lead and Arizona was able to close the gap but never took the lead. Maldonado Diaz and Hodge each had four kills in the set.

Arizona State took the second set, 25-21, to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Maldonado Diaz led Arizona's offense with nine kills in the set. Arizona had the lead for most of the set, but the Sun Devils went on a late run to win the set.

ASU won the match with a 15-25 score in Set 3. The Sun Devils held a large lead for the entire third set that Arizona couldn't catch.

Arizona will host No. 7 Washington State for its Pac-12 home opener on Sunday, September 24 at 1 p.m. MST in McKale Center. Â
