TUCSON, Ariz. – The Pac-12 Conference announced on Monday that Arizona guard
Caleb Love has been named the conference's Player of the Week after leading Arizona to wins over Colorado and Utah last week.
Love is the third different Wildcat to receive the weekly award from the conference this season, joining
Kylan Boswell (Nov. 13) and
Oumar Ballo (Dec. 26).
It is the first player of the week award in Love's career, although he was named ACC Freshman of the Week on two occasions during the 2020-21 season.
In the two wins last week, Love averaged 19.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and shot 59.3% from the floor. He posted 16 points on 7 of 12 shooting in the win over Colorado and then tallied 23 points, six rebounds and six assists in Saturday's triumph against Utah. It was the third time in four Pac-12 games that Love has scored 20 or more points.
For the season, Love leads Arizona in scoring (17.7) and is shooting a career-best 44.4% from the floor and averaging a career-best 4.9 rebounds per game.
Love's recognition marks the 112
th time that an Arizona player has received Player of the Week honors since the 1979-80 season, easily the most in the conference over that span. UCLA is second with 86 selections.
The No. 8 Wildcats are on the road this week to take on the Washington State Cougars at 4:00 p.m. MST in Pullman, Wash.
