Women's Swim and Dive Wraps Last Pac-12 Championships

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Arizona has completed their last day of the Women's Swimming and Men's / Women's Diving Pac-12 Championships this evening in Federal Way, marking the end of their time in the Pac-12 conference.

Saturday
The Cats had seven swimmers make it to finals this evening, and one top-eight finish. Senior Julia Heimstead completed her Pac-12 run with a third "A" final race this evening in the 200 Fly, clocking 1:54.57 and taking sixth place overall. The Cats finished the week with a sixth place finish in the 400 Free Relay from Julia Heimstead, Julia Wozniak, Maddy Burt and Tia Lindsay, marking the end of Heimstead, Burt and Lindsay's career with the Wildcats. 

Friday
Sophomore Gage DuBois took home his second podium finish of his first ever Pac-12 Championships this evening in the platform diving event. DuBois took second place with an impressive score of 370.70 after placing second in preliminary rounds. Austin Flaute was also in the platform's top-eight, taking sixth in finals with 288.00. On the women's side, Brooke Earley took second place in 3-meter prelims, and xxth place in the championship final. 

On the swimming side, senior Julia Heimstead put up an impressive 40 points for Arizona with two top-eight finishes in the 100 Fly and 200 Free events. Heimstead went back-to-back in the races, taking eighth in both with NCAA B cut times of 52.03 and 1:46.60. Sophomore Eleni Gewalt put up another 20 points for Arizona, taking eighth in the 100 Breast finals with a B cut time of 1:00.13. Arizona's Paige Armstrong, Kelsey Wasikowski, Maddy Ahluwalia, Alexa Puccini, Emma Kinsey, Maddy Burt and Magdalena Hagsten-Skarda also represented Arizona in the "B" and "C" finals tonight. Armstrong posted a B cut time of 53.41 in the 100 Back, taking second in the "B" final. Freshman Kelsey Wasikowkski also posted a B cut time of 1:00.52 in the 100 Breast, taking 2nd in the "B" final as well. Also posting B cut times were Burt (52.59, 100 Fly), Ahluwalia (1:01.01 100 BR) and Lindsay (4:17.19 400 IM). 

Thursday 
Divers Gage DuBois, Bjorn Markentin and Brooke Earley represented the Cats on the boards tonight, securing three top-five finishes and putting up vital points on the board for Arizona. After taking first in preliminary rounds, Markentin took fourth overall in the 3-meter event with 385.10. DuBois followed behind him in fifth place with 375.80. On the women's side, Earley secured a fourth place finish in the 1-meter event, scoring 296.55. Each diver met the Zone Diving Championships qualifying scores. 

Arizona's Tia Lindsay and Kelsey Wasikowsky represented the Cats in the 200 IM C final this evening, taking 20th and 21st place overall. Julia Wozniak and Lexi Duchsherer swam in the 50 Free C final, taking 19th and 21st place. Wozniak secured herself an NCAA B cut with a time of 22.58. Arizona's 'A' 200 Free Relay was DQ'ed. 

Wednesday 

Diver Gage DuBois made his Pac-12 Championship debut in the men's 1-meter event with a third place podium finish, setting the tone for the rest of the week. The red-shirt freshman scored a 357.80 in the event, followed by fifth-year Bjorn Markentin in fourth place with 355.90. This is the first of three events each diver will compete in, proving for a hopeful start to the championships. 

Arizona had two relay teams competing for scoring spots this evening, one in the 200 Medley and one in the 800 Free. Following a DQ, Julia Heimstead, Julia Wozniak, Paige Armstrong and Maddy Ahluwalia were bumped from fourth to third in the 200 Medley with a time of 1:36.90- securing them a podium finish and an NCAA B cut. In the last event of the night, Julia Heimstead and Julia Wozniak were back again to swim the 800 Free alongside seniors Amalie Mortensen and Tia Lindsay. The team took fifth following a DQ, putting 54 points up on the board with a time of 7:09.02. 

The NCAA D1 Diving Zones Championships are set to take place from March 11-13 in Flagstaff, Ariz. Wildcats Brooke Earley, Zara Ayazi, Bjorn Markentin and Gage DuBois have all qualified for the competition.
