TUCSON, Ariz. – As the outdoor season gets underway this weekend at Drachman Stadium, Arizona Track & Field's 31 newcomers will begin to make their Wildcat outdoor debuts. The Wildcats added 19 women and 12 men prior to this outdoor season's start, with the majority of the crew competing during this year's cross country and indoor track and field seasons. The first outdoor home meet of the season, the Arizona Spring Break Fiesta, will give the newcomers their first opportunity to compete at Drachman Stadium in front of a home crowd on Saturday, March 16.
"The 2024 track and field newcomers will prove to be one of the all-time bests in my tenure," said the Director of Cross Country and Track & Field
Fred Harvey. "In every event area of the program, we have added potential Pac-12, and NCAA scorers that will push the best athletes in the conference, as well as the NCAA. They are very young, and very talented."
Of the newcomers, 23 are freshmen and eight are transfers. These newcomers include eight sprinters, five throwers, five jumpers (three horizontal, two vertical), four cross country and distance runners, four pole vaulters, four hurdlers, and one multi's competitor.
