TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 21 Arizona lost the first game of the series to No. 7 Stanford, 9-0, in five innings on Thursday night. Â

Both teams held each other scoreless through the first two innings, but Stanford plated five runs in the third to open up scoring for the Cardinal. A pair of doubles, a fielder's choice, and a groundout drove in the first five runs for Stanford.

The Cardinal added two more in the fourth on an RBI single and a sacrifice fly before plating their final two runs on a two-run home run in the fifth inning.

Arizona only tallied three hits but left seven runners on base in five innings.

Miranda Stoddard picked up the loss to fall to 2-6 on the season. She pitched the first two innings and gave up four runs on six hits before
Ali Blanchard entered in relief. Blanchard went 3.0 innings and allowed five runs to score on six hits.
