Cats Fall in Game One to Bruins

LOS ANGELES – No. 19 Arizona lost the opening game of the series to No. 9 UCLA, 10-2, in five innings on Friday.
 
The Wildcats tallied four hits but could only plate two runs in the game.
 
In the bottom of the first, UCLA took a 1-0 lead on a solo home run. The Bruins took a five-run lead after scoring four in the second on a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly.
 
The Cats scored two in the top of the third to cut into UCLA's lead. Regan Shockey forced a UCLA error to bring across Arizona's first run of the game. With the bases loaded, Allie Skaggs drove in the second run with an RBI fielder's choice. UCLA responded with a solo home run in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-2 lead.
 
UCLA scored one more on an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth. In the bottom of the fifth, the Bruins scored three on an RBI single and a two-run triple to run-rule the Cats.
 
Brooke Mannon picked up the loss to fall to 4-2 on the season. She started the game in the circle, going 1.0 inning and giving up three runs before Aissa Silva entered in relief in the second inning. Silva faced seven batters in the second inning but allowed two runs to score. Miranda Stoddard relieved Silva in the second inning and pitched the final three innings of the game, giving up five runs on the five hits.

Arizona will continue the series at UCLA on Saturday, April 27 at 5 p.m. at Easton Stadium.
