TUCSON, Ariz. – Former Arizona tight end
Tanner McLachlan was selected in the sixth round (194 overall) of the 2024 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals.
Â
McLachlan becomes the third Arizona Wildcat off the board, matching the most selected in one draft since 2014. Ka'Deem Carey (RB – 4th Rd; 117 overall by Chicago), Shaquille Richardson (CB – 5th Rd; 157 overall by Pittsburgh), and Marquis Flowers (LB – 6th Rd; 212 overall by Cincinnati) were the three Wildcats selected in the 2014 draft.
Â
The Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada native finished his two seasons with the Wildcats with 984 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 79 receptions. The 79 receptions are the most by a tight end in program history and his 984-career yards are second most by a tight end in Arizona football history.
Â
Following the 2023 season where he made 45 receptions for 528 yards and four touchdowns, he was named AP Second-Team All-Pac-12 and All-Pac-12 Honorable mention. McLachlan led tight ends in the Pac-12 in receiving yards and was second among conference tight ends in catches.
Â
McLachlan becomes the first Arizona tight end selected in the NFL Draft since Rob Gronkowski in 2010 (2nd Rd, 42nd overall, New England).
Â
He recorded a 4.61 time in the 40-yard dash marking the third-fastest time for tight ends at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine. McLachlan received a 75 grade by NFL's "Next Gen Stats," which is the seventh-best grade for tight ends at the combine.
Â
The Arizona Wildcats get the 2024 season underway on Aug. 31 against New Mexico at Arizona Stadium.
