The University of Arizona Athletics Department and the Future of College Athletics

The Big 12 Conference, along with the NCAA, the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Big Ten Conference, Pac-12 Conference, and Southeastern Conference, have voted to approve the proposed settlement of outstanding antitrust litigation. The proposed settlement represents a major shift in the landscape of college athletics with other litigation still to be addressed. You can read the official announcement of the settlement by clicking here.

Recognizing that these significant changes were on the horizon, the University of Arizona Department of Athletics has been strategizing and preparing for months to build a modern college athletics model that is adaptive to change and supports our student-athletes. Although there is still much to be done and more to learn, the University of Arizona will be a leading voice during these crucial times. Our department is working on navigating this transformation to ensure that we are positioned to continue our legacy of excellence for years to come.

The future of Arizona Athletics will remain focused on our student-athletes and providing the best experience for them to grow and develop as champions in competition, in the classroom and in our community. We remain committed to that mission by competing at the highest levels and representing this incredible institution and community with pride.

Our future model aims to maintain a robust and vibrant Department of Athletics that elevates the campus and our community by increasing applications, philanthropy, enrollment and brand awareness. Arizona Athletics will also continue to serve as an economic driver for the Tucson community and state of Arizona through generating an annual economic impact of $265 million from athletic events.

We are embracing this newest challenge as an opportunity. Our athletics department will continue to work hard to make the Wildcat Family proud.
