Arizona Takes Down Boise State in Four to Open 2024 Season

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Volleyball won its first game of the season, 3-1, over Boise State on Friday night. The Wildcats won the first two sets, 25-15 and 25-23, but the Broncos took the third set, 26-24. Arizona secured the match win with a 25-20 win in the fourth set.
 
The Wildcats hit .307 as a team and the team's trio of pins – Carlie Cisneros, Jaelyn Hodge, and Jordan Wilson – each tallied double-digit kills. Wilson led the offense with 19 kills and recorded 10 digs to notch her first career double-double. Cisneros made her collegiate debut with 13 kills and 16 digs while hitting .429. Hodge had 10 kills and nine digs in the match.
 
Arizona opened the match with a 25-15 win in the first set. The Cats hit .343 and held the Broncos to a .000 hitting percentage. Wilson tallied five kills and Cisneros had four kills while both hit .500 or above in the set.
 
The Cats took a two-set lead over the Broncos with a 25-23 win in set two. Arizona out-blocked Boise State 3.0-2.5 but both teams hit .306. Cisneros knocked down five kills to lead the team in the set and Wilson followed with four kills. Transfer Kiari Robey led Arizona's defense with two block assists while Cisneros recorded the first solo block and first block assist of her career.
 
Boise State won the third set, 26-24, to avoid the sweep. Although Arizona out-hit Boise State, the Broncos served four aces to win the set. Robey tallied four kills with a .571 clip while Wilson also had four kills in the set, but it wasn't enough for the Cats.
 
Arizona won the fourth set, 25-20, to win the match. In a back-and-forth set, the Wildcats capitalized on Boise State errors to pull ahead late in the set. Wilson recorded six kills and hit .625 to lead the attack and Hodge secured the match victory with her second kill of the set.
 
The Cactus Classic will continue as the Wildcats take on the VCU Rams on Saturday, August 31 at 12:30 p.m. MST in McKale Center.
