Cats Sweep Day One of Wildcat Invite, Complete Day Two in the Bay

TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona Men's Tennis completed day one of the Wildcat Invite with nine total victories, and day two of Battle in the Bay with two singles victories. 

Home at LaNelle 

The Wildcats began their sweep on Friday with three doubles wins. First to finish was sophomore Cole Stelse and senior Iñaki Cabrera-Bello on court two with a 6-0 defeat over Krauel/Dunlop of Gonzaga. Next was freshmen Santiago Padilla-Cote and Matthias Kask on court three with a 6-1 win over New Mexico State's Stipetic/Fe D'Ostiani. Rounding out doubles for the Cats was sophomore Alexander Rozin and freshman Filip Gustafsson on court one with a 6-4 victory over Dils/Bosin of NMSU. 

Taking the first singles win of the day was Gustafsson on court one with a swift 6-0, 6-2 win over Dils (NMSU). Next door on court two, Stelse took home the win over Fe D'Ostiani (NMSU) in a 6-1, 6-2 straight set victory. Rozin secured the third singles win for the Cats, taking the win over Urlaub (NMSU) 6-2, 6-3.

With three doubles and three singles victories under their belts, the Cats were looking to go nine for nine this afternoon. On cue, Cabrera-Bello won his match against NMSU's Lohmann 6-2, 6-1. Following close behind was Padilla-Cote with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Maijorov (SDSU). Wrapping up the day for Arizona was Kask with a 6-3, 7-6(6) tiebreaker win over Spiers (SDSU). 

The Cats will resume play at LaNelle tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 14 with doubles starting at 8:30 a.m. 

In the Bay 

Over in San Francisco, junior Jay Friend represented the Cats with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win over #123 Chang (Cal). Freshman Ludoski secured Arizona's second victory on Friday with a 6-3 6-3 win over Chen (Cal)- both Wildcats are headed to the quarterfinals after their wins. 

Ludoski fell 6-4, 6-3 in his next match against UCSB's Brunkow.

Friend went on to compete in the quarterfinals later Friday afternoon, sending himself into the semifinals with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Stepanov (Cal). 

Friend will compete tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. against #39 Maxted (TCU).
