Arizona Moves on to Championship Round of ITA Kickoff

MALIBU, Calif.- Arizona Women's Tennis defeated Georgia Tech in the first round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend 4-0, securing a spot in the second round against #16 Pepperdine. 

Friday afternoon, the Cats secured the doubles point against Georgia Tech. On court one, Midori Castillo and Martyna Ostryzgalo took down Alejandra Cruz and Given Roach (GT) 7-5. Winning the doubles point for Arizona, Belen Nevenhoven and Josie Usereau defeated Scarlett Nicholson and Kate Sharabura (GT) 6-3. In singles, both Castillo and Ostryzgalo won their matches with straight set wins. On court one, Castillo took down Nicholson (GT) 6-1, 6-2. Ostrzygalo defeated Sharabura (GT) 6-3, 6-4. For the third time this week, Freshman Zoya Chulak clinched the match, earning a victory over Bilchev (GT) 6-3, 7-6 (7-4). All other singles matches were unfinished. 

This 4-0 victory takes Arizona to the second round of the ITA Weekend Kickoff. This would be Arizona's first time qualifying for the ITA Indoor National Championship. Their opponent, #16 Pepperdine, has a 8-year qualifying streak which Arizona hopes to break. The match will start at 1:00 p.m. MST and can be streamed via PlaySight.
