WESTMONT, Illi. - Arizona finished up competition at the World Cup after a strong showing throughout the entire weekend. Thirteen Wildcats competed at the World Cup, with several standout performances by the entire team.
Day One: Friday, October 17
The Wildcats had a successful first day at the World Cup. Freshman
Alexandre Desangles began the morning on the right note in the Men's 200m Backstroke with a time of 1:52.07. He placed 5th in his heat, which qualified him for the finals. During the finals, Desangles improved his time (1:51.17) and ended in 3rd overall.
Arizona also achieved several Top-16 finishes across multiple events.
Haakon Naughton placed 12th in the Men's 100m Butterfly, with a time of 51.59.
Julia Wozniak tied for 13th in the Women's 50m Freestyle with a time of 24.76. Finally,
Tomas Lukminas placed 16th in the Men's 50m Freestyle with a time of 21.56.
Day Two: Saturday, October 18
The Wildcats had another strong showing in the prelims this morning.
Alexandre Desangles started day two with a 15th place finish in the Men's 50m Backstroke. Desangles has been dominating the Backstroke events with a time of 23.87 today.
Patricija Kondraskaite also had a strong 16th place finish in the Women's 50m Butterfly, with a time of 26.84.
Tomas Lukminas had an impressive finish in the prelims this morning, placing second in the Men's 100m Freestyle. He had a time of 46.28, which qualified him for the evening finals. Lukminas ended the day with a 3rd place finish in the finals, with a time of 46.23.
Haakon Naughton delivered a standout performance in the Men's 200m Butterfly, placing 7th with a time of 1:54.04. Naughton also advanced to the finals to cap off a strong morning session. Naughton had an impressive finals time of 1:53.70, placing 6th.
Day Three: Sunday, October 19
With the final day of the World Cup, Arizona finished strong. We had three different Wildcats placing top 16 in three different events.
Alexandre Desangles finished off the weekend with a 14th place finish in the Men's 100m Backstroke, with a time of 52.13. Desangles placed top 16 in all his events this weekend.
Eleni Gewalt had a time of 30.97 in the Women's 50m Breaststroke, placing 11th in the prelims.
Julia Smurzynska also had an impressive 14th place finish in the Women's 200m Backstroke, with a time of 2:09.89.
The Wildcats had a strong showing all weekend long at their first appearance at the World Cup.
