Alexander Rozin and Filip Gustafsson Qualify for NCAA Singles Tournament

BERKELEY, Calif. – Arizona Men's Tennis continued its strong fall season as Alexander Rozin and Filip Gustafsson earned bids to the NCAA Singles Championship, set to begin November 19 in Orlando, Florida.

The Wildcats put together an impressive weekend of play in Berkeley, highlighted by dominant performances in both singles and doubles action.

Competition opened Thursday with a doubles victory from Zoran Ludoski and Rozin, who defeated Boschmans/Watanabe Erickson (Santa Clara) 6-1, 7-5. In singles play, No. 89 Rozin topped Alexander Watanabe Eriksson (Santa Clara) 7-5, 7-5; No. 63 Ludoski defeated Lucas Bollinger (UC Davis) 7-6(5), 6-4; and Gustafsson cruised past Jean-Baptiste Badon (Utah State) 6-0, 6-3.

The strong start continued Friday as Rozin defeated Bernardo Munk Mesa (Cal) 4-6, 6-0, 6-2, Ludoski took down Hiroki Sakagawa (UC Irvine) 6-2, 6-3, and Gustafsson earned another straight-sets win over Ofek Shimanov (Arizona State) 6-2, 6-4—sending all three Wildcats to the quarterfinals.

Rozin secured his NCAA bid on Saturday with a commanding 6-3, 6-2 win over No. 124 Shu Matsuoka (Arizona State). Ludoski and Gustafsson fell in their respective quarterfinal matches, setting up a Sunday showdown between the two teammates.

In that all-Wildcat battle, Gustafsson rallied to defeat Ludoski 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, earning his spot alongside Rozin in Orlando.

With Rozin, Gustafsson, and ITA All-American Champion Jay Friend already qualified, Arizona will send three athletes to compete at the NCAA Singles Championships, marking another milestone in the program's continued rise under Head Coach Clancy Shields.
