TUCSON, Ariz. – Four Arizona Swim & Dive top performers earned Big 12 Conference awards this week.
Tomas Lukminas, Free specialist, won Big 12 Swimmer of the Week. Diver
Luke Hernandez won Big 12 Diver of the Week for the second time this season. Freshman
Alexandre Desangles won Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, and
Kayman Neal won Big 12 Women's Swimmer of the Week.
Lukminas, a sophomore, had a great performance last week against SMU and TCU. Lukminas claimed gold in the 50 Free (19.57), 200 Free Relay (19.65), 100 Free (42.30), 400 Medley Relay (42.02), and the 400 Free Relay (42.22). He also got second in the 200 Free (1:34.53).
Hernandez, a freshman, has been dominating in his first collegiate season, exclusively placing in the top three in both the 1-meter and 3-meter so far in the season. This last weekend was no different, with a first-place finish on the 3-meter (359.40) and a second-place finish against SMU and TCU individually (316.55).
Desangles, a freshman, has also been a great addition to the team this year. Desangles had first-place finishes in three events: 100 Back (46.63), 400 Medley Relay (46.82), and the 200 Back (1:42.29). The 400 Medley Relay is ranked 12 in NCAAs. Desangles also dominated at the World Cup in the middle of October, setting three personal best times.
Neal, a sophomore, had a tremendous two-day meet with season-best times in three events and a personal best time in the 100 Free (49.36). Neal's 200 Back time is ranked 26 in the NCAA (1:54.38), and the 400 Free Relay is ranked 18 (49.03).
The Wildcats are back in action this Friday, November 7
th, against USC, and the Women's team is facing UCLA Saturday, November 8
th.
