TUCSON, Ariz. – Two Arizona Swimmers win weekly awards from the Big 12 conference after their standout performances against Texas A&M.
Haakon Naughton was selected as the Big 12 Men's Swimmer of the Week, and
Eleni Gewalt was announced Big 12 Women's Swimmer of the Week.
Naughton, a senior, placed first in both individual events against the Aggies and played a crucial role in the relay events. The Minnesota native had a time of 45.21 in the 100 fly and a time of 1:42.67 in the 200 Fly. In the relays, Naughton dominated in his splits, helping secure a win in the 200-medley relay (20.07) and the 400-medley relay (45.56). Naughton also had a personal best time in his split of the 400 free relay (43.32), where they placed third.
Gewalt, a senior, had only podium finishes in the two-day meet. With a time of 59.41, Gewalt won the 100 breast, and had a season-best time of 2:13.42 to place third in the 200 breast. Gewalt also played a pivotal role in the relay races. With a standout time of 58.95, the Illinois native helped secure a win in the 400-meter medley relay. Gewalt was also a part of the second-place finish in the 200-medley relay (26.75), and third-place finishes in the 200 free relay (23.23) and 400 free relay (50.42).
The Women's Swim & Dive team is back at Hillenbrand on January 9th to take on Colorado State and Northern Arizona
