TEMPE, Ariz. – The No. 10 Arizona Wildcats beat Arizona State to open the series, 6-1, on Friday night in Tempe.
The Cats plated six runs on eight hits and three players –
Dakota Kennedy,
Regan Shockey, and
Sydney Stewart – all had two hits each. Stewart led Arizona to the win with a three-run home run and
Kaiah Altmeyer drove in a pair of runs.
After two scoreless innings, the Wildcats took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third. Stewart hit a three-run home run – her ninth homer of the season – to put Arizona on the board.
Arizona added one more run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly from
Tayler Biehl to score
Zaedi Tagalog.
In the sixth inning, Arizona scored two more to take a 6-0 lead. Altmeyer drove in a pair of runs with a single through the left side. ASU hit a solo home run in the bottom of the inning.
Miranda Stoddard earned the win to improve to 7-0 on the season. She went 5.2 innings in the circle and allowed ASU to score just one run on five hits. Netz pitched 1.1 innings in relief and retired the four batters she faced to close the game to score their only run of the game.
