LAWRENCE, Kan. —
Jaden Bradley scored 21 points - one shy of his career high - and
Caleb Love added 16, but Arizona could not overcome a first-half deficit in an 83-76 loss to Kansas on Saturday at Allen Fieldhouse.
Arizona (20-11, 14-6 Pac-12) trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half before rallying in the second, briefly taking the lead before Kansas (20-11, 11-9 Big 12) responded down the stretch to secure the win.
Kansas opened the game with a 9-2 run, with Hunter Dickinson scoring six of the Jayhawks' first nine points. The Wildcats struggled from beyond the arc early, shooting 2-for-9 from three-point range in the first half. Kansas extended its lead to 39-25 late in the first half, but Arizona closed on a 5-0 run to enter halftime down 39-30 after Love blocked a 3-pointer and Bradley raced to the other end for a layup.Â
Bradley helped lead Arizona's second-half push, scoring 15 of his 21 points after the break.
Trey Townsend, who finished with 13 points, hit a three-pointer with 12:16 remaining to give the Wildcats a 57-56 lead, their first since the opening minutes.
Arizona and Kansas traded baskets over the next several possessions, with Bradley tying the game at 66 with 6:52 remaining on a pair of free throws. However, Kansas responded with a three-pointer from Zeke Mayo and a putback by Dickinson to take a five-point lead.
Arizona stayed within striking distance, cutting the deficit to 75-72 with 2:44 left on a Love jumper, but Kansas closed the game on an 8-4 run. Dickinson, who finished with a game-high 33 points, scored a crucial basket with 2:18 left to push Kansas' lead to five.
The Wildcats shot 47.3% from the field and 85.7% from the free-throw line but were outscored 16-7 in second-chance points. Kansas won the rebounding battle 36-30 and shot 49.3% from the floor.
Arizona will be the No. 3 seed in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship next week at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City. Their first game will be at 8:30 p.m. CT.Â
