HOUSTON, Texas – The No. 13 Wildcats improved to 42-10 (16-7 Big 12) with a 5-0 victory over the Houston Cougars on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Arizona secured its sixth Big 12 series victory of the season.
Arizona scored five runs on 10 hits and
Jenna Sniffen and
Sydney Stewart both went 3-for-3 at the plate. Sniffen led the offense with a home run and three RBI.
After four scoreless innings, Arizona scored one in the top of the fifth to break the tie. Sniffen drove in Stewart from third base to put the Cats on the board.
In the top of the seventh, the Wildcats plated four runs to take a 5-1 lead over the Cougars. The first run came across when Stewart took advantage of a passed ball and a throwing error to come home.
Tayler Biehl hit a single to left field to bring home the second run of the inning. Sniffen rounded out the scoring with a two-run home run – her seventh homer of the season.
Devyn Netz tossed a complete game to improve to 20-5 on the season. She allowed just two hits and struck out eight Cougars to lead the Cats to the win.
