Peat Looks To Make History With USA Basketball U19 National Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The 12-man roster for the USA Basketball U19 National Team was announced on Wednesday and it includs Arizona freshman Koa Peat. The team is led by head coach Tommy Lloyd and will begin play in the FIBA U19 World Cup 2025 in Lausanne, Switzerland on June 28.

Peat is looking to become the first player to ever win three FIBA Youth World Cups after earning the distinction of being the first player to ever win two FIBA U17 World Cups.

The FIBA U19 World Cup began back in 1979 and the United States has won eight of the 16 tournaments held since then. The Americans are looking to return to the top of the medal stand for the first time since 2021 after finishing off the medal stand in 2023.

The United States is part of Group D, also known as the "Group of Death," as it includes Australia, who won the 2003 version of this event, France, who has earned a medal in each of the last three editions and a talented team from Cameroon making its debut. The United States schedule for pool play looks like this:

Saturday, June 28 vs. Australia (8:15 a.m. MST; YouTube Stream
Sunday, June 29 vs. France (11:00 a.m. MST; YouTube Stream
Tuesday, July 1 vs. Cameroon (8:15 a.m. MST; YouTube Stream

All games will be streamed for free on FIBA's YouTube channel and live stats available at the tournament home page

Current Wildcat Tobe Awaka and former Wildcat Kylan Boswell played for the United States in the 2023 edition of this tournament. In 2021, there were four Wildcats that participated for three different countries and in 2017, Allonzo Trier was a member of the USA team from that brought home a gold medal alongside former Arizona head coach Sean Miller.

Arizona fans will also recall that before he joined the Wildcats program, it was at the 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup when former Wildcat Oumar Ballo led Mali to a second place finish – the best-ever finish for an African team at a FIBA event. Ballo was one of five players named to the all-tournament team alongside Tyrese Haliburton (USA), Reginald Perry (USA), Siriman Kanoute (MALI) and Joel Ayayi (FRANCE).
