Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

No. 1 Arizona Stays Undefeated Led By Tobe Awaka's 25 points & Koa Peat Double-Double Against ASU

TUCSON, Ariz. — Freshman Koa Peat scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Arizona pulled away in the second half to defeat Arizona State 89-82 on Tuesday night at McKale Center.

Fellow freshman Ivan Kharchenkov added 15 points and four rebounds, while Jaden Bradley finished with 12 points and four assists for the Wildcats, who outscored the Sun Devils 51-43 after halftime. Arizona shot 54.2% from the field - including 66.7% in the second half - and went 21 of 26 from the free-throw line to seal the win down the stretch.

Tobe Awaka provided a spark off the bench with a career-high 25 points on 8-of-11 shooting for Arizona. The Wildcats turned 13 Arizona State turnovers into 13 points and held a 17-7 edge in fast-break scoring.

Maurice Odum led Arizona State with 23 points and Massamba Diop scored 16 points. Odum knocked down four 3-pointers and Arizona State shot 44.0% from beyond the arc.

Arizona State led by three points early, which was their biggest lead of the game and took a 39-38 lead into halftime. The Wildcats seized control midway through the second half, going up as many as 12 after making 11 straight field goals over a 10 minute stretch.

The rivalry game was tightly contested with 16 lead changes and nine ties. The Sun Devils cut the deficit to a one possession game late, but Arizona answered and hit free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

Arizona finished with a 39-28 rebounding advantage and scored 46 points in the paint, helping the Wildcats maintain control despite Arizona State's strong perimeter shooting.

Next up for the Wildcats is a trip to Orlando to take on UCF, who sits just outside the Top 25 in the Associated Press poll this week.
