TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona Men's Tennis took down No. 21 Florida State 4-1 at home on Wednesday afternoon.
Arizona, sitting at No. 16 in the national polls, fell 0-1 early in Wednesday's match after narrowly losing the doubles point to the Seminoles.
During singles play, the Cats battled back. First to win was #58 Filip Gustafsson on court two, with a 6-2, 6-4 win over #69 Luis Felipe Miguel. Next up was No. 4 Jay Friend, who won 6-3, 6-2 against Corey Craig.
Now up 2-1, next to finish was Glib Sekachov on court four with a 6-1, 6-2 straight set win over No. 48 Azariah Rusher. Clinching the win for Arizona was Alejandro Arcila with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Mohammad Alkotop.
Wednesday's win marks the first ranked win of the season for the Cats, wrapping up a statement first week for Arizona. The Cats are set to host ITA Kickoff Weekend Jan. 24-25, where Florida State, LSU, and Pepperdine will travel to compete in Tucson for a spot in the ITA National Team Indoor Tournament.
