TUCSON, Ariz. - The Arizona women's tennis team is set to travel to Austin, Texas to compete in ITA Kickoff Weekend, beginning on Friday, Jan. 23, as they aim to secure a spot in the ITA National Indoor Championship.
The Wildcats (3-1) are the four seed and will face #17 Texas (0-1) on Friday at 2 p.m. (MST).Â
Arizona had a strong opening weekend to commence the spring season, going 3-1 with victories over UC Davis (6-1), UC San Diego (7-0), and Northern Arizona (6-1), while they fell to #19 USC (2-5).Â
Tanvi Narendran and Stephanie Shogreen each went undefeated in singles play throughout the opening weekend for the Cats, posting records of 3-0. Martyna Ostrzygalo went 3-1 playing on court 1 for all four matches, with her only defeat coming in three sets to #12 Emma Charney (USC).Â
Arizona was dominant in doubles play throughout the weekend, posting a record of 10-2 and securing the doubles point in all four matches they played.Â
The Cats will face a stern test on Friday when they battle with the 17th ranked Longhorns, as Texas is led by the #2 ranked singles player in the nation, Carmen Andreea Herea.Â
#15Â California and #25 Baylor will also be competing in the Austin ITA Kickoff Weekend event, as Arizona will face one of the two teams on Saturday depending on the results from Friday.Â
The Cats will aim to earn some significant victories this weekend in pursuit of securing a spot in the ITA National Indoor Championships.Â
