No. 1 Arizona takes down West Virginia

TUCSON, Ariz. — No. 1 Arizona stayed perfect and in firm control of the Big 12 race Friday afternoon, rolling past West Virginia, 88–53, at McKale Center behind a balanced attack and a stifling defensive effort.

Arizona (20-0, 7-0 Big 12) led wire-to-wire and turned a competitive early stretch into a runaway with a dominant second half. The Wildcats shot 52.5% from the field, knocked down 10 3-pointers and committed just five turnovers, while holding West Virginia (13-7, 4-3 Big 12) to 22-of-64 shooting and only three made free throws all game.

Freshman Brayden Burries led Arizona with 22 points, continuing his efficient scoring run by attacking the paint and finishing in transition, and added seven assists and zero turnovers. Freshman Koa Peat added 17 points, providing a steady presence on both ends, with Anthony Dell'Orso dropping in 12 of his own and Motiejus Krivas chipping in 11 points and 12 rebounds - his fifth double double of the season - to give the Wildcats four players in double figures. Jaden Bradley also contributed eight points, four assists and three steals, helping set the tone defensively.

Arizona took control early, opening the game with energy on the defensive end and building a 43–23 halftime advantage after Dwayne Aristode finished a fastbreak layup just before the horn. The Wildcats forced turnovers, jumped passing lanes and limited West Virginia's perimeter looks, finishing with 10 steals and six blocks. Arizona also dominated the glass, outrebounding the Mountaineers 43–30.

Arizona's depth made the difference as well. The Wildcats received 23 points off the bench and consistently pushed the pace, scoring 17 fast-break points while converting turnovers into easy opportunities.

The Wildcats never allowed West Virginia a chance to respond in the second half, extending the lead to as many as 35 points as the sold out McKale Center crowd watched Arizona cruise to another convincing conference victory.

Arizona will look to keep its unbeaten streak alive as it continues Big 12 play as they travel to Provo to take on 13th ranked BYU on Monday January 26th. The game will be televised on ESPN at 7:00 p.m. MST.
