Malibu, Calif. — The No. 17 Arizona men's tennis team heads to Southern California this weekend for a pair of high-profile road matches against nationally ranked opponents. The Wildcats will face No. 25 Pepperdine on Friday, January 30, at 4 p.m. MST in Malibu, before traveling to take on No. 10 San Diego on Sunday, February 1, at 3 p.m. MST.
Arizona opens the weekend against Pepperdine, marking the fifth match up between the two squads in program history. The Wildcats earned a decisive 4–0 victory when the teams met last season in Tucson. Their last trip to Malibu came in 2022, where Arizona fell 5–2. The Waves enter the match with three ranked singles players and two ranked doubles teams, presenting a strong early-season test.
The Wildcats will conclude the weekend against No. 10 San Diego, marking the 14th meeting between the two programs. Arizona holds a 9–4 advantage in the all-time series. The Wildcats swept the Toreros 4–0 last season in Tucson, while their most recent visit to San Diego resulted in a narrow 4–3 loss. San Diego features one nationally ranked doubles pair.
Arizona currently sits at No. 17 in the ITA National Team Rankings and has three players in the ITA singles poll. Leading the way is No. 4 Jay Friend, followed by No. 58 Filip Gustafsson and No. 106 Mattias Uwe Kask.
