CINCINNATI — Arizona fell to Cincinnati, 77–61, Tuesday night at Fifth Third Arena.
The Wildcats, who were limited to eight available players, trailed 25–15 after the first quarter and 46–22 at halftime. Cincinnati used a 21–7 second quarter to create separation and maintained control the rest of the way.
Arizona showed improved rhythm in the second half, shooting 61.5 percent in the third quarter and outscoring Cincinnati 22–16 in the fourth.
Sumayah Sugapong led Arizona with 20 points, returning to double figures for the Wildcats. Daniah Trammell added 12 points while playing in front of her hometown crowd, marking her third consecutive game in double figures before fouling out. Tanyuel Welch finished with nine points, seven rebounds and a team-high six assists.
Arizona shot 41.1 percent from the field and scored 30 points in the paint, but was out rebounded 49–29. Cincinnati capitalized on second-chance opportunities, scoring 22 points off offensive rebounds.
Reagan Jackson led Cincinnati with 19 points, while Mya Perry added 17.
Arizona continues Big 12 play Saturday at noon for the Territorial Cup against Arizona State at McKale Center.
