Smith Breaks Record, Wildcats Finish Pair of Weekend Meets

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. / SEATTLE, Wash. – The Wildcats wrapped up the Tyson Invitational and the Husky Classic on Saturday.

The majority of the team competed at the Tyson Invitational hosted by Arkansas. Antone Smith's win in the men's triple jump broke the Arizona school record with a jump of 52-8.75 (16.07m), and highlighted the weekend for the team. On Saturday, the team also won its second individual event of the weekend with Michael Urbanski winning the men's 5000m.

Four distance Wildcats competed at the Husky Classic, hosted by Washington. The team had two indoor personal bests, one of which was freshman Lawi Ngetich in the mile, making Arizona the only school in the country with three freshmen under four minutes in the mile.

FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
Antone Smith won the men's university triple jump and broke the school record with a jump of 52-8.75 (16.07m). Earning his first individual win of the season.

Tapenisa Havea finished second in the women's university shot put with a throw of 55-10.25 (17.02m). Haedyn Bambolo also finished eighth in the event with a throw of 52-7.5 (16.04m).

In the women's championship high jump, Emma Gates and Paris Mikinski finished eighth with jumps of 5-9.25 (1.76m).

TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
Michael Urbanski won the men's university 5000m with a time of 14:22.94. Earning his first individual win of the season.

Mason Lawyer competed in the men's university 60m and finished second in the prelims with a time of 6.64, which qualified him for the finals of the event. In the finals, Lawyer finished fourth with a time of 6.63. He also competed in the men's university 200m and finished seventh with a time of 20.77.

Parker Duskin competed in the men's university 60m hurdles and finished eighth in the prelims with a time of 7.87, which qualified him for the finals of the event. In the finals, Duskin finished fourth with a time of 7.78.

HUSKY CLASSIC
TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
Bryson Nielsen set an indoor personal best in the men's collegiate open 800m and finished eighth in the event with a time of 1:49.57.

Vincent Gwachi set an indoor personal best in the men's collegiate open mile and finished sixth in the event with a time of 3:59.82.

Lawi Ngetich competed in the men's invite mile and finished sixth with a time of 3:56.35.

Evans Tanui competed in the men's invite 5000m and finished 11th with a time of 13:41.24.

The Wildcats will next compete at the Big 12 Indoor Championships on February 27-28th in Lubbock, TX.
