Wildcats Cap Busy Weekend With Comeback Victory Over Oregon

TUCSON, Ariz.- Arizona Women's Tennis closed out a busy home weekend with a statement 4-3 win over Oregon on Saturday at the Lanelle Robson Tennis Center, finishing a competitive three-match slate against Denver, Iowa, and the Ducks.

The Wildcats started strong in doubles against the Pioneers, picking up wins on courts one and three. The duo of Martyna Ostrzygalo and Ciara Moore earned a 6-2 victory over Becirovic Novak/Lambert (DEN) at the top spot, while Tanvi Narendran and Danielle Tuhten followed with a 6-1 win over Adkins/Cinkova (DEN) to give Arizona early momentum.

In singles play, Maria Garcia battled back for a three-set win over Natalie Cinkova (DEN) on court four and Narendran added a straight-set victory over Hana Becirovic Novak (DEN) on court five, but Denver ultimately secured four singles points to edge the match 4-3.

Arizona returned to the courts later in the weekend for another tightly contested matchup against Iowa, falling 4-3 in a dual that featured a ranked battle on court one against No. 67 Mia Mack. Ostrzygalo delivered a statement performance in that matchup, defeating Mia Mack (IOWA) 6-2, 6-2 to earn a key point for the Wildcats. Garcia added a dominant 6-4, 6-0 win over Emma Tothova (IOWA) on court four, and Narendran secured a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Pia Kranholdt (IOWA) on court five. Despite the trio of singles wins and a doubles victory from Ghigiarelli and Garcia over Kranholdt/Xu (IOWA) on court three, Iowa narrowly claimed the overall decision.

Arizona closed the weekend on a high note with a 4-3 victory over Oregon on Saturday at the Lanelle Robson Tennis Center in a singles-clinch format that ultimately came down to doubles. The Wildcats and Ducks split the six singles matches to tie the score 3-3, forcing doubles to decide the team result.

Ostrzygalo set the tone on court one with a dominant 6-1, 4-6, 6-0 win over T. Jagare (ORE), while Garcia earned a straight-set victory over B. Mihulka (ORE), 6-1, 6-3. Narendran added the third singles point for Arizona with a comeback win over H. Furutani (ORE), rallying from a first-set deficit to win 1-6, 6-2, 6-4.

With the match tied after singles, the Wildcats rose to the occasion in doubles play. Ghigiarelli and Garcia added a 6-4 win over Crocker/Appling (ORE) on court three before Ostrzygalo and Moore clinched the 4-3 team victory with a 6-4 win over Jagare/Symons (ORE) on court one.

The Wildcats will return to action Friday at 11 a.m. MST on the road against No. 42 Baylor.
